Hotels in Las Vegas

Last Vegas Travel GuideDon’t think of Vegas as a city for gambling and quickie marriages. The truth is that Vegas is an invigorating destination for singles, couples, and families and hotels in Las Vegas go out of their way to keep you entertained. It’s earliest foundations established it as the vibrant city we’ve all come to love.

Las Vegas (The Meadows) earned its Spanish name from the lush grass and natural springs discovered in the early 1800s. The abundance of water soon turned it into a thriving railroad town. By the 1960s, the city saw tremendous growth as developers realized the potential in the Vegas hotel casino industry.

Popular Hotels in Las Vegas

From Vegas hotels & casinos on the Vegas Strip to those near downtown, the city is home to more than 200 hotel casino choices. Check out these Las Vegas hotels and the reasons they are so popular.

Traveling with pets and searching for the best pet-friendly Vegas hotels? Caesars Palace caters to pets up to 50 pounds in the pet-friendly hotel suites in Augustus Tower. Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino is another pet-friendly hotel, specifically dogs.

Looking for the perfect Vegas hotels with golf? The Las Vegas Country Club is right next door to LVH Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa is approximately 15 minutes from the Vegas Strip and also offers golf at TPC Las Vegas.

Families enjoy Mandalay Bay thanks to the gorgeous beaches and the gigantic shark aquarium. Other hotels for families include New York New York Hotel & Casino, home to a taxi cab-themed roller coaster, Cirque du Soleil shows, and the Blue Man Group. Spacious suites are the norm at the five-star Venetian Las Vegas Hotel Casino, and all ages love taking a canal ride adjacent to the hotel’s Grand Canal Shoppes.

Getting to Las Vegas

If you’re driving to Las Vegas, the I-15 (north to south) travels right through the city. Other possible routes are the 215 that runs west to east, and the 515 (northeast to west). Hotel casinos are easily reached from these main routes.

McCarran International Airport serves the southern Nevada city and is five miles from the downtown. From the airport, taxis are a convenient option, but you’ll find it cheaper to board a group shuttle. Certain hotels provide free shuttles for comfortable rides to and from the airport terminal to hotels in Las Vegas.

Getting Around

Once you’re in Las Vegas, the choices for transportation are impressive. There are always plenty of taxis, just be aware that the maximum passenger count is five, and that includes infants and children. Public bus service is also available throughout Las Vegas and surrounding communities.

At the airport, you can rent a car at the McCarran Rent-a-Car Center that’s a short drive from terminals 1 and 3. Free shuttle buses bring you to and from the Rent-a-Car Center.

One of the most fun means of transportation in Las Vegas is the monorail system. Trams run down the Vegas Strip as early as 7:00 a.m. to well after midnight. Purchase one-day passes or multiple-day passes and hop on and off the tram as needed, with stops at many Vegas casinos & hotels and the Fashion Show Mall. Don’t worry if you’re staying in Vegas hotels that are not on the strip, most hotels in Las Vegas provide free transportation to the Strip.

Arts and Entertainment

Every Vegas hotel casino has something special to offer. Hotels in Vegas often have resident entertainers who put on nightly shows for all ages in venues like the Colosseum at Caesars Palace or the MGM Grand Garden Arena. There are also theatrical performance and Broadway musicals taking place nightly.

If museums are more to your liking, enjoy having a huge selection of them within easy reach of Vegas Strip hotels. Madame Tussaud’s famous wax museum is conveniently located inside the Venetian Hotel & Casino. Springs Preserve tributes the city’s origins with the Nevada State Museum and the land where the first hot springs were found. The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art is home to stunning works of art, and the hotel casino’s lobby showcases the works of artists like Picasso.

For parents with children who like kid-friendly activities, Circus-Circus is home to the largest permanent circus in all of the world, and an indoor theme park spanning 5.5 acres. Zoos are always popular with children, and lions, tigers, and dolphins are all found within the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage Resort & Casino. Some of the hotel casino resorts also arrange babysitting.

Nightlife

Nightclubs and bars abound in the many hotel casino properties, but there’s one street deserving of special mention. The Fremont Street Experience is home to ten casinos, free concerts, and the world’s largest screen that lights up the sky. Best of all, this pedestrian mall makes it easy to wander from one establishment to the next without worrying about driving or watching for traffic.

Dining

Virtually every hotel casino has buffets set up for guests, but Vegas is home to a variety of restaurants. Sit down to a gourmet meal or grab a quick bite in a casual dining establishment. Many celebrity chefs have found a home in Vegas. From Gordon Ramsay’s British pub fare to steaks cooked to Bobby Flay’s high expectations, dining is a real treat in Vegas.

Shopping

From quaint boutiques to grand shopping malls, once again Las Vegas offers a variety of stores for all tastes and budgets. Shoppers looking to save money can head to South Las Vegas and check out the premium outlet stores. The Grand Canal Shoppes in the Venetian Hotel pair shopping with a taste of Italy thanks to the gondola rides. Even outdoorsmen love to shop in Vegas thanks to the giant fishing tank, archery range, and firing ranges found within Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World that’s adjacent to Silverton Casino Hotel.

Nearby Attractions

While Las Vegas has enough to keep tourists busy for weeks, there are a few must-see attractions within an hour of the city.

Start with Hoover Dam. This majestic dam is just 35 miles from many Vegas hotels. Art deco features help add artistic flair to the bridge, and there’s also the working power plant that allows people to learn exactly how the rushing waters of the Colorado River help power thousands of acres in Arizona, California, and Nevada.

Lake Mead is approximately 30 miles to the south. The lake is a great place to relax or enjoy water sports. It’s also near a few geothermal springs where you can soak in a natural hot tub before returning to your Las Vegas hotel casino.
