This list is based on reviews left by Reservation Counter clients after they’ve booked a room and stayed at the hotel mentioned. Continuing on, here’s more of that list of the 50 capital cities and the hotels worthy of a closer look.
Des Moines, Iowa
Days Inn and Suites Des Moines Airport is in an ideal spot if you’re flying in and out of Des Moines. The airport is about a block to the west, while there’s a shopping complex within walking distance. You even have Wakonda Club nearby if you want to go golfing. The Iowa State Capitol is about five miles from the hotel. Along the way, you’ll pass city highlights like Water Works Park, Science Center of Iowa, and Des Moines Civic Center.
Save money on your stay in Topeka with a room or suite at Sleep Inn & Suites I-70 at Wanamaker. The hotel is close to the I-70 and many businesses. If you’re in the area for graduation ceremonies, Washburn Institute of Technology and Rasmussen College are both close by. Gage Park is a little over a mile away for trips to the zoo or the children’s museum. The Kansas State Capitol Visitor Center is under five miles from the Sleep Inn.
Walk to Parkside from your accommodations at Fairfield Inn & Suites Frankfort. To reach the Kentucky State Capitol Building, it’s a five-mile drive. Guests rave over the location. It’s close to restaurants and shops. The warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in also get great reviews from guests.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Nottoway Plantation Resort is in nearby White Castle. This stunning plantation resort offers rooms, suites, cottages, and a carriage house. As it is a historic property, there is plenty to do and see on the grounds thanks to tours, mystery dinners, a pool, tennis courts, and two on-site restaurants. When you want to explore Baton Rouge, the state capitol is about 20 miles away. After a busy day touring the capital city, you’ll have a tranquil retreat to return to.
Tucked on Western Avenue, Senator Inn & Spa provides everything from basic economy rooms to luxurious spa suites with fireplaces, and adjoining rooms are a possibility here. At SpringHill Suites by Marriott Annapolis, guests are close to the capitol and to a shopping mall. Annapolis Technology Park is within walking distance, and the hotel is surrounded by Annapolis Harbour Center, Festival at Riva, and Westfield Annapolis. Guests say it’s a hotel where you feel like you’re at home. Staff members are friendly, and rooms are comfortable with plenty of amenities.
Boston is an easy city to navigate on foot or by taking the subway, known as the “T.” Book a room at The Verb Hotel and be across from Fenway Park, and near the subway, restaurants, and many historic sites. The Statehouse is about two miles from the hotel, so it’s possible to walk that distance. Along the way, stop in the Boston Common and Boston Public Garden to check out the frog pond and multiple statues.
Fairfield Inn & Suites Lansing West is near The Marketplace at Delta Township and easy to reach from the I-96 and Capital Region International Airport. Michigan State Capitol is just over five miles from the hotel. You’re also within a few minutes of key attractions in Lansing, such as Potter Park Zoo and multiple golf courses.
St. Paul, Minnesota
Best Western Premier Nicollet Inn is in the suburbs of St. Paul, so you’ll be close to the capitol, stores, restaurants, and major sites without trying to sleep in the more congested city. On the route to St. Paul, the scenery is gorgeous as the area is bordered by the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge and Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. Other nearby attractions include the science museum and St. Paul golf courses.
Walk to the Mississippi State Capitol or the governor’s mansion from your accommodations at Old Capitol Inn. This boutique hotel once served as a YMCA, but it was converted to a bed and breakfast. Book standard rooms or go for something more indulgent like the Jacuzzi suite. When you’re done exploring Jackson for the day, Old Capitol Inn has a rooftop garden where you can unwind. Included in your room rate is a hearty Southern breakfast and an evening cheese and wine social.
Jefferson City, Missouri
Comfort Suites Jefferson City gets high marks from guests for clean rooms and courteous staff. The hotel is in a quieter part of the city off Country Club Drive. If you want to go into the city, the state capitol building is about six miles away. Binder State Park is close to the hotel for recreational activities.
Flying in and out of Helena is simple with a stay at the Wingate by Wyndham Helena Airport. The airport is just over a mile from the hotel, and the Montana State Capitol is two miles away. Breakfasts are free, and the hotel also offers a gym, indoor pool, and complimentary airport shuttle.
AmericInn Lodge & Suites Lincoln South is on the quieter north end of the city. The state capitol is just under six miles. Lincoln Airport is even closer if you’re flying in and out of Lincoln. AmericInn has a business center, indoor pool with hot tub, and free parking that even fits RVs. Each morning, a hot breakfast awaits.
Carson City, Nevada
Many flock to Nevada for the lights and sounds of Las Vegas, but Carson City is the capital city of Nevada and deserving of your time. Wyndham Garden Carson City Max Casino provides comfortable rooms and suites in the heart of Carson City. Walk to Carson Mall and multiple restaurants. You can also walk to the Nevada State Capitol Building, just half a mile away.
Concord, New Hampshire
The stately appearance of The Centennial is something you won’t miss. This Victorian estate is in a tranquil setting near Franklin Pierce Highway, and you’re just minutes from key Concord attractions like the New Hampshire Sate House, planetarium and science museum, and the Capitol Center for the Arts. There is a bus stop near the hotel if you want to use public transportation.
Trenton, New Jersey
Trenton is New Jersey’s state capital, and it sits below Princeton where many of the more popular hotels are found. Hyatt Regency Princeton on Carnegie Drive is just 11 miles from the New Jersey State House Museum and the State House Annex Welcome Center. Public transportation is available. Guest rooms and suites are both offered within the Hyatt. In addition to 24-hour reception, the hotel boasts a lounge, tennis court, and business center.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
It’s the El Paradero Bed & Breakfast Inn that gets a lot of positive feedback from guests. It may be smaller, but the property is gorgeous, the staff are friendly, and breakfasts are both filling and delicious. The B&B is in the historic district, so there’s plenty for you to do within walking distances. Walk to art galleries, the cultural museum, and multiple stores and restaurants. At just half a mile away, the capitol is also within walking distance.
Albany, New York
With a prime location that’s 15 minutes from Saratoga Raceway and Global Foundries, Residence Inn Albany Clifton Park appeals to travelers looking for modern accommodations and ample amenities. From the outdoor patio with a fire pit to spacious suites with kitchens and separate living and sleeping areas, this hotel is stunning. If you’re looking to explore the New York State Capitol, it’s about 16 miles north of the hotel.
