Explore More Than 200 Acres of Nature at Piedmont Park

Exploring a city can be an exciting adventure filled with tall buildings, busy streets, and energy-packed crowds. When you want to escape it all, Piedmont Park is waiting for you.  Over 200 acres of green offering walking trails, picnic areas, a driving range, and gardens await you when you book hotels near Piedmont Park in Atlanta.

Originally a working farm in the early 1800s, Piedmont park began its transition to a public park in 1887 when it was transformed into a fairground.  In the years that followed, the park was open for public use, but it wasn’t until the mid-70s when it truly was given the attention it needed, creating the oasis for those looking to be active or enjoy the quiet of a day outside in nature.

Your Day In The Park

Green Market: Saturday mornings, except the months of January and February, a large farmers’ market filled with local produce, baked goods, and products occupies the park at the 12th Street Entrance.   Stroll around, grab a snack, and enjoy some local music to start your morning.

Fitness Paths: Get active on one of many paths designed for either foot traffic or wheeled exercise.  Yep – bring your bikes, roller-blades, or skateboard because wheels are welcome and even have their own dedicate routes through the park.  Runners, walkers, and strollers can enjoy over two miles of dedicate paths to wander.

Historical Tours: Take a Saturday morning and join others on a walking tour of the park.  Meeting each Saturday during the months of March through December, you can enjoy a free guided tour of the park to learn about the history. Tours last 60 to 90 minutes, so be sure to pack your comfortable shoes and start your weekend off with a stroll in the park.

Scavenger Hunts: Using engaging clues and activity sheets available on the parks website, you and your family can explore the park looking for animal tracks, wildlife, habitats, and even healthy food choices at the market.

Bird Walks: Should your travels have you in town on the first Saturday of the month, join the free guided Bird Walk.  Although appropriate for all ages, be prepared to enjoy this stroll over a two- to three-hour period.
