If you are planning on traveling to Galveston, Texas with your family, you definitely don’t want to miss the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier. It is not only one of the top attractions in Galveston, but also one of the oldest. Pleasure Pier is located on Seawall Boulevard, close to many other coastal attractions, including the Seawall, Moody Gardens, and the Schlitterbahn Waterpark. It has become a popular amusement park for people of all ages since it was built in the 1940s. It faced some damage after several big storms, but was rebuilt in 2012 and now has more of a nostalgic feel. The pier has fun rides, delicious food vendors, and a lot of great shopping. As a bonus, there are many hotels near Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, some within walking distance.
Attractions at the Pleasure Pier
When you visit the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, you will have endless amount of things to do. One of the most popular attractions at the theme park is the Iron Shark rollercoaster, which goes up 100 feet and features drops that land just above the water. There is also an airborne shot ride called Sky Shooter, and the Texas Star Flyer, which will swing you about 230 feet over the ocean. A ferris wheel that goes 100 feet in the air, called the Galaxy Wheel is also available.
Some rides that are better for the younger kids are Big Wheelin, Frog Hopper, the Carousel, Pier Pileup bumper cars, and the Texas Tea teacups. Other rides to check out include the Cyclone, Gulf Glider, Pirate’s Plunge, and Revolution.
Shopping at the Pleasure Pier
There is also a lot of great shopping when you stay at one of the hotels near Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier. Right in the amusement park, you will find multiple candy shops and retail outlets. One of the top gift shops at the Pleasure Pier is Pelican’s Bag. Here you can find hats, t-shirts, tote bags, key chains, and many other items with sharks, pirates, and other themed images and text. There is also the Lolli & Pop’s Candy Shoppe, a favorite among visitors to the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier. It has a lot of modern and nostalgic candy, such as gummy worms, Bit O’ Honey, and Wax Coke Bottles.
For general souvenirs, you can pick them up at the Gifts at Pleasure Pier gift shop, which is right near the entrance and exit to the park. Make sure to get something on your way out! You can also take antique-style photos when you are at the amusement park and purchase some copies to bring home and frame. Lastly, you can get souvenirs, glassware and caps at the Bubba Gump retail store.
