In 1946 the airport was returned to the territory of Hawaii and by 1950 it was the third busiest airport in the US. In 1951, the Honolulu Airport became international with flights to Australia.

Today the Honolulu International Airport sees passenger and cargo flights from all over the U.S. It also services flights to Asia, Polynesia, and the Hawaiian Islands themselves, among its many destinations.
