In choosing a hotel, you will have your choice from places that offer a suite, while others offer just a small, simple room. Some La Port hotels will be perfect for an extended stay, such as a week-long vacation, while others are more for a short getaway, such as a quick romantic weekend away. For some people, picking where they stay will depend on just where they plan to go during their visit. Some people want to be within walking distance, so they don’t have to worry about driving, while others don’t mind. No matter what factors go into picking out where you will stay, there are plenty options that will fit your bill.

Things to Do

During your stay with hotels in La Porte, you might want to spend at least a little while out and about on the town. After all, what kind of a trip is it if you spend it cooped up inside the hotel room all weekend. One of the most popular attractions in town is the Battleship Texas State Historic Site. One of the things that makes this attraction so interesting is that it is a floating museum. Visitors get to walk onto a battleship that is in the water and explore. Guests can even stay the night aboard the battleship. Another historical place to visit is the San Jacinto Battleground Site. This state park offers visitors the chance to view a monument and read about history, as this is where Texas won the battle in their independence from Mexico. Don’t miss Sylvan Beach Park. Here, you can walk along the beach or even let the kids get wet, as the swimming area is netted off with buoys. There is also a large pier that can be fished off of.

Getting Around

Public transportation in La Porte is provided by Harris County Transit. It is a good way to get around, especially when your choice of the hotels in La Porte, TX, doesn’t have shuttle service. Those who fly into the George Bush Intercontinental Airport out in Houston will find numerous rental car agencies at the airport if driving is more convenient

More Information

La Porte is located at the mouth of the San Jacinto River, as well as the Buffalo Bayou. Being located near these waterways means shipping channels are necessary for economic goods to be imported and exported. La Porte used to be connected to Baytown via the Baytown Tunnel. However, that was closed and replaced with the Fred Hartman Bridge in 1995 due to the Houston Ship Channel needing to be deepened.
