Back to Where It All Started
Before becoming one of Fortune’s best 100 companies to work for in 2014 and having over 500 luxury locations all over the world, the Hyatt Corporation was just another hopeful contender in the hospitality market, and it all began in 1957 right in L.A. When Hyatt Robert van Dehn decided he was done with the hotel business, he sold his Hyatt House in Los Angeles to Jay Prizker who took over the operation, with his younger brother, and began to work under the mentorship of Hyatt’s partner Jack Crouch.
The two siblings, combining one’s operational know with the other’s leadership and sales-savvy, took the single hotel and grew it into one of the fastest growing chains in the United States over the 1960s. The company gained their first international location in 1969 in Hong Kong and continued to expand over the next three decades, adding new brands and gaining an excellent reputation in the business. Today, it counts over 500 locations across the globe under its name, including a beautiful set of Hyatt hotels in Los Angeles, right back where it all started.
