Built for the Fans
Why consider inns or hotels near the Rose Bowl? The Rose Bowl, the oldest bowl game in football history, began its run in 1902 in Tournament Park outside of the Caltech campus. As the game began to draw more and more crowds, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association decided they needed more room to support their fans and began the process of building a stadium dedicated to the annual tournament. Based on the design of the York Bowl in Connecticut, the Rose Bowl began construction in 1921. Its first game was played on October 28th, 1922, with California Golden Bears defeating the USC Trojans, part of a 50 game winning streak that lasted until 1925.
The bowl was actually a horseshoe until 1928 when it saw completion with the southern stands. Since then, it has seen multiple renovations, keeping it apace with technology, increased functionality, and popularity. What began as an effort to support the game’s fan base has become a multipurpose event center and National Historic Landmark with a capacity of over 90,000 people. An inn or hotel near the Rose Bowl put you close to this California icon.
