A Guide to Attractions and Hotels in Miami

Hotels in Miami range greatly in size, room rates, brands, and location. Find brands like America’s Best Inn, Courtyard by Marriott, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, JW Marriott, or Ritz-Carlton. Whether you want to step out the hotel’s doors and be right on South Beach, or you want to be in the heart of the Art Deco District, Miami hotels put you in the heart of the main attractions.

The Hotels

Miami is home to several neighborhoods and districts that are worthy of your time. Look for hotels in Miami in the areas you put at the top of your itinerary. Here are some of the most popular choices.

The Miami International Airport is west of South Beach, Downtown Miami, and Little Havana. If you want hotels near Miami International Airport, consider booking a room at establishments like Miami International Airport Hotel or Ramada Miami Springs/Miami International Airport.

If you’re looking for golf hotels in Miami, Doral is the place to be. The World Golf Championships, part of the PGA tour, is held at Trump National Doral Miami. Provident Doral at the Blue Miami is a good choice for accommodations.

South of Miami sits Coconut Grove, a quaint village established in the 1800s. It’s home to cafes, art galleries, bars, and parks adjacent to the bay. For hotels in Coconut Grove, try the Ritz-Carlton, Coconut Grove, or Mayfair Hotel & Spa.

This is only a small sampling. There are hundreds of hotels, bed and breakfasts, and inns in the area. Trump International Beach Resort is an excellent choice if you require concierge services during your stay. Zinn Inn offers budget accommodations within walking distance of Hollywood, Florida. EPIC, a Kimpton Hotel, is a luxury hotel with more than 400 guest rooms and suites, each with a private balcony overlooking Downtown Miami. EPIC even has rooms specifically for extra-tall guests.

The Beaches

When it comes to beaches, Miami has plenty of them. South Beach is, perhaps, the best known of the area’s beaches. South Beach sits at the southern end of Miami Beach and is known as a beach for the partying crowd. The beach is lined with Art Deco buildings and cruise ships are often spotted leaving the port for exotic destinations. Many hotels in Miami are a short walk from South Beach, such as the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach.

Central Miami Beach is lined by a boardwalk that’s popular with joggers and people who simply want to stroll along the oceanfront. The boardwalk is lined with cafes and bars, but it is generally less crowded than South Beach.

Surfside Beach starts at North Shore Open Space Park and extends to 96th Street. In addition to picnic areas and public facilities, the beach draws locals and visitors with its packed sand jogging/walking/bicycling path.

The Events

Check out the yearly Miami International Film Festival that is organized by Miami Dade College. This is only one of many Miami film festivals. Options range from Cinema Italy to the Brazilian Film Festival, both held in the Art Deco District.

Speaking of the Art Deco District, visitors coming to Miami in January love being a part of Art Deco Weekend. From parades to art shows, fashion shows to walking tours, the foods, styles, and culture of Miami take center stage in a festival originally created to help preserve the Art Deco buildings.

The Miami Marathon takes place every February. Hotels in Miami book quickly for this 26-mile race, so book rooms early to guarantee a spot.

Carnaval Miami celebrates the Cuban culture in Little Havana. Enjoy foods, a beauty pageant, a 10K race, sports competitions, and dancing in this month-long event that runs from the middle of February to the middle of March.

The Attractions

Miami and its surrounding cities and towns are home to some of Florida’s best historic attractions, museums, and nature parks. Find Miami hotels near the Everglades Alligator to see thousands of alligators in their natural habitat. Watch Flipper or sharks perform at the Miami Seaquarium. There’s also Zoo Miami for all ages to enjoy.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens date back to the 1910s, when the Deering Estate was erected. Both the estate and the gardens are open to the public. Coral Castle is a stunning castle built from coral. The Venetian Pool in Coral Gables is also worth a few hours of your time. This lagoon is carved in coral and has caves to explore and stunning waterfalls, in addition to the popular swimming lagoon. Miami’s weather can be quite warm, so a cool lagoon is ideal for those sultry summer days.

When it comes to getting around Miami, public transportation is the affordable option. If you’re in Miami Beach (Alton Road/West Avenue), Downtown Miami, or Coral Gables, take advantage of the trolley system. The trolleys allow you to hop on and off at your convenience. These trolleys travel to Metrorail stations, so you’ll easily reach other areas of the city. Many of the trolleys are free of charge. Hotels in Miami often have shuttle service available, as well, especially if you need a ride to the airport or the Port of Miami.

Miami International Airport serves the area with flights from around the world. There are many car rental agencies available at the airport, if you’d rather rent a car during your Miami trip. Taxis, private car services, and limousines are other popular options for Miami transportation.

Travel Tips

Miami’s weather varies. Generally, it is going to be warm, no matter when you go. Look for winter temperatures to be in the 70s during the day and the 60s at night. The weather is hottest from June to September, so expect daytime temperatures in the 90s and lows in the 70s. Hotels in Miami usually have air conditioning/heating units with individual climate control, so you control the temperature of your guest room.

Hotels near Miami shopping areas are also plentiful. Aventura Mall is the biggest mall in Miami. In Aventura, you’ll find more than 300 stores, a movie theater with two dozen screens, and the Rainbow Valley Playground. There’s even a Courtyard by Marriott next to the mall. CocoWalk is a great choice for pedestrian-friendly shopping areas. This outdoor space takes up blocks with small boutiques, larger chains, entertainment venues, and dozens of restaurants.
