Where Advertising Takes on Beauty

A lot of people out there tend to roll their eyes when advertisements creep onto their web page or nestle between the action of their favorite television program. It’s a bit unusual, with that in mind, to think that one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations happens to be an advertising powerhouse. It’s all too appropriate – your personal feelings towards commerce aside – that Times Square is nothing if not a spectacle of dazzling displays and lights promotion companies and products.

The community really came into its own in the early 1900s, when a wealthy entrepreneur named Carl G. Fisher chose it to be the eastern end of the Lincoln Highway. This road was the first road to span the entire width of the United States. Being the eastern end drove thousands of people to the already-bustling Manhattan neighborhood, and soon the streets were littered with New York hotels, theaters, and restaurants for residents of every social caste.

The Square Itself

Times Square is a bustling crown jewel for a very good reason: its center. Chances are, you’ve seen it before, despite perhaps having never been there. Every year, just as an example, the New Year’s Eve ball drop occurs. There’s countless images of the area flying around the media. The honest reality is, it’s one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world, with lavish, incredible buildings, banners the size of your house, and much, much more.

Times Square is most often associated with its center, which is worth seeing in itself. Huge billboards adorn the surrounding area, some even digital. It’s an incredible spectacle of human capability. Buildings like the Bank of America Tower are visual feasts, and several are open for tours. Speaking of feasts, this block serves up an incredible collection of great eats. With nearly fifty eateries to choose from, such as self-serve frozen yogurt kiosks and five-star restaurants, foodies are bound to make their friends jealous with a trip here.

Fans of other types of attractions won’t feel left out with a trip to Times Square, either. There are tons of museums to study and many historic buildings to pore over. Hotels in Times Square are close to all of these New York City attractions, so you do not have to go far to visit places like Madame Tussaud’s or the stunning Toys R’ Us with its indoor ferris wheel and life-sized T-Rex.

Musicals are frequently advertised in Times Square, and Broadway is a quick walk away from the areas. The question, you see, isn’t what there is to do. A better question is what can’t you do in the area. Rest assured, you’ll need more than a weekend to see all Times Square has to offer!
