Carpenters Hall Philadelphia: Hotels and Things to Do

Carpenters Hall: What is it?

One of Philadelphia’s favorite gems, Carpenters Hall, is settled back from Chestnut Street in the Old City District and is a stop on every history nut’s list. It’s also a great place to visit while in the area, and hotels near Carpenters Hall in Philadelphia are the key to exactly that.

Carpenters Hall is one of many historical landmarks and sites in Philadelphia. The hall was designed and built by Robert Smith, who was a part of the Carpenters’ Company, the first trade union in the United States. This is the same man that Benjamin Franklin turned to for help designing his house. The modest, yet dignified building stands similar to when it was originally completed in 1770.

In the latter half of 1774, the First Continental Congressional meeting was held here, with George Washington, John Adams, Samuel Adams, and Patrick Henry, which was the first step taken to break away from the British rule.

In 1857, Carpenters’ Company chose to restore and maintain this building as a historic landmark, and it’s now part of the Independence National Historical Park. Carpenters Hall is open to the public to come and enjoy the history the Hall holds.

Where to Eat

After checking out Carpenters Hall and all of its history, there are plenty of great restaurants within a few blocks. Maybe a lighter snack and a good cup of coffee is what you’re craving, no problem. Menagerie Coffee is located at 18 South 3rd Street offering yummy, local treats and tasty coffee. There are many ethnic options in the area, depending on what you’re looking for.
