US Airways Center Facts and Figures

US Airways Center, also known as the Purple Palace and the Snake Pit, opened in 1992 on June 6th. Its estimated construction cost was nearly $90 million. Originally it was home to the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, and the Arena Football League’s Arizona Rattlers. In 2003, the Coyotes moved to the nearby Jobing.com Arena.

In 2003, the arena was expanded to include an air-conditioned glass atrium over the ticketing and northwest lobby areas to help combat the high temperatures and constant sunlight of Phoenix. The renovation cost an estimated $67 million.

The largest capacity for the arena is in its basketball configuration with seating for over 19,000. Its lowest capacity is in its arena football layout, offering room for 15,500 attendees.
