Harbour Centre

The Sky’s the Limit

What began as a humble department store in the heart of a growing city quickly became something much more. You can enjoy every aspect of this famous location’s evolution when you book your stay at one of the hotels near Harbour Centre Vancouver. For nearly fifty years, the location that would be this iconic local landmark sold only clothing, perfume, and jewelry, first under the name of Spencer, then Eaton’s, and finally Sears.  Then, in 1977, to keep apace with the changing face of the city itself, the tower was built over and around the existing department store complex.

Big Growth

Newly popular and successful technology companies moved their offices into the upper floors of the Harbour Centre, and by the end of the 80s, Sears moved out to make way for the campus of the Simon Fraser University. Today, shopping and food court dining still exist, but they’ve moved up to the two floors dedicated to the Harbour Centre Mall, leaving the original Spencer Building to the university. Above those, for twenty-eight floors, the offices of various technology companies can still be found, offering a gorgeous view for your next business meeting or interview. On top of the office buildings is forty second ride in glass elevator that will take you 500-feet straight up.

The Observation Deck

You can see the entire city from the top of the tower in the Vancouver Lookout, a tourist attraction opened by Neil Armstrong in 1977.  Once you’re up among the clouds, get a table at the Top of Vancouver and enjoy a delicious meal while you look out over the city from a revolving vantage point. The sky is literally the limit with a stay at the hotels near Harbour Centre Vancouver.
