2016 Fall Scholarship

Marco Lastra, San Luis High School - San Luis, AZ

I’m from San Luis High, located at the southwest corner of Arizona. While in high school, I was involved in extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, and community services, all of which have helped me gain leadership, communication, and organizational skills. These attributes, combined with an interest in math and science, have led me to my current goal of majoring in Civil Engineering while attending a university in Arizona. With the award from Reservation Counter, I will continue toward the next step in my future as a civil engineer. I’m thankful to my family, teachers, and Reservation Counter for the support in my educational journey.

2016 Spring Scholarship

Cassie Cooper, Oral Roberts University - Colorado Springs, CO

Currently, I live in the beautiful state of Colorado, and last year, I attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was unable to return, however, and made the decision to work full-time at Focus on the Family while taking classes online. I would not trade the experiences that I have had this year for anything – I have learned and grown so much through it all. But I am certainly looking forward to returning to ORU in the fall! I am pursuing a degree in Communications with studies in Psychology and Youth and Family Ministry. I have a passion for coming alongside high school students who are experiencing life’s challenges; I hope to one day work full-time in youth ministry. When I am not working or taking classes, I enjoy hanging out with my family and friends, reading, frequenting local coffee shops, listening to music, and playing a good game of Frisbee.

2015 Fall Scholarship

Rachel Mauro, CSU Global Campus - Colorado Springs, CO

I have lived in Colorado Springs all of my life and love the area. I am currently working at CarMax while going to school and it has been a great career thus far. I have my associates degree in Early Childhood Education and have just recently gone back to school to pursue a Bachelor's in Human Services and then will pursue a Master's in Social Work. I have always had a heart for children and would love to work with children and families or for the Wounded Warrior Project. I have a passion for helping others and am looking forward to taking the steps to build a career that allows me to do so. When I am not working or doing homework, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, enjoying the beauty of Colorado, art projects, and cooking.
